Carrabelle Harbor exerted her class Saturday at Emerald Downs, taking the early lead and holding off betting favorite Royal Moses for a 3 ½-length victory in the $18,900 feature race for older fillies and mares.
Ridden by Isaias Enriquez, Carrabelle Harbor ran 6 ½ furlongs in 1:15.74 and paid $6, $2.80 and $2.20. Doris Harwood is the trainer for owners Bar C Racing Stables and Desert Rose Racing.
For Enriquez, it was his second win Saturday and his sixth in two days. For Harwood, it also was her second win Saturday and third in two days.
Royal Moses, ridden by Javier Matias, rallied from last to finish second and paid $2.60 and $2.20.
Maggie’s Special, ridden by Eliska Kubinova, was another three-quarters of a length back in third and paid $2.60 to show. Inquiry Miss and Solar Wind completed the order of finish.
Carrabelle Harbor put her speed to good use, clearing the field early while setting fractions of :22.41, :45.13 and 1:09.32. She straightened for home with a two-length lead, and drew off through the lane to win convincingly.
A triple stakes winner at Emerald Downs, Carrabelle Harbor has a 5-4-3 record in 18 career starts and earnings of $145,739. Saturday’s victory ended a nine-race drought that dated back to 2011, but several of the losses came vs. the track’s top older fillies and mares.
