“Rebuilding year” is a cliche, but in the case of White River High girls golf there is no better term.

“It is a rebuilding year with a focus on improvement,” coach Jer Argo said. “The girls have great spirit and attitude and we hope to have a fun year with tremendous development.”

Graduation took a big bite out of the team. Four seniors, who Argo called “tremendous people and leaders” waved goodbye to the maroon and gold – Kristine Brons, Tricia Bruckbauer, Brittany Edmonson and Ashley Stevens.

The four were also the heart of the veteran lineup.

The Hornets don’t start completely from scratch, as junior Tia Johnson and senior Rebecca Norris return to the card. Christina Parker moves up from the junior varsity and there are newcomers like junior Jordynn Smith, sophomores Alyssa and Erika Tinnon and freshman Drew McCarty.

The Lady Hornets start the season Thursday with a jamboree at Brookdale Golf Course. South Puget Sound League 3A play begins at 2:15 p.m. Sept. 10 with Franklin Pierce on the Hornets’ home course at Tapps Island.
