Grocery Outlet is planning its Bonney Lake debut.

The store will be open sometime this summer in the former Bonney Lake Supermarket site at 18318 state Route 410 E.

Ron and Hendriekje Troth will be the owner/operators of the store. The Troths have experience with the Grocery Outlet chain, having owned and operated the Enumclaw Grocery Outlet since September. Ron Troth said he has been with Grocery Outlet for 12 years.

Bonney Lake Supermarket closed in March after 23 years of operation.

The Troths have lived in the Bonney Lake/Lake Tapps area for the past 11 years.

"We are really excited about this store," Ron Troth said. "Enumclaw has been a good store and the Bonney Lake store will be a great opportunity."

John and Tamara Chadwick will be the new owner/operators at the Enumclaw store.

According to John Wylie, vice-president of marketing for the franchise, Grocery Outlet has been in business since 1946.

"The stores as you see them today started in 1973," Wylie said. "We used to be known as Canned Sales, but we changed the name in 1993 because we're much more than canned foods."

Wylie said the chain has 120 stores throughout seven western states, most of those in Washington, Oregon and California.

Washington will have 28 stores this summer, once the Bonney Lake store opens, along with a new store in Auburn.

"We appeal to a broad spectrum of people," Wylie said. "From budget shoppers to treasure hunters. Our regular customers understand if they find something, buy it, it may be gone tomorrow."

Troth said the company buys overruns, overbuys and label changes.

"Our ad prices are name brands," Troth said. "Bargain prices are everyday prices. And every product is 100 percent money back guaranteed."

The deal to secure the Bonney Lake Supermarket site has been in the works for about a year, Wylie said.

"We are always looking for the right site," Wylie said. "We are not looking for the biggest store in town. We usually want a smaller, more intimate environment."

Wylie said the business and the owner of the building, Mary Floyd of Boise, Idaho, have not settled on whether Grocery Outlet will purchase the building.

The chain has plans for some remodeling and Wylie said about 5,000 square feet of the building will be available for lease.

Mayor Bob Young said the city looked into purchasing the building for potential use as a community center, but the owner was not interested in selling.
