Hannah Calvert drilled a crucial 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining and Jessica Snoen coolly added two free throws with four seconds on the clock to wrap up the Hornets’ 47-42 victory.

The win allowed Enumclaw to finish 3-7 in South Puget Sound League 3A play, good for a fourth-place tie with Decatur. Because there’s a big difference between taking the No. 4 seed into postseason play and claiming the No. 5 berth, the teams played Tuesday to determine seeding; results came too late to be included here.

If Enumclaw won Tuesday, the Hornets will play Hazen Friday. If they lost Tuesday, their Friday game will be against Bremerton. Either way, the game will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the opponent’s gymnasium.

The team going into Friday play with the No. 4 berth needs one win to qualify for district play. The No. 5 seed will need two weekend wins to keep their season alive.

The victory over Bonney Lake “was an awesome game for us,” coach Beth Madill said. Her squad built a healthy halftime lead, squandered the advantage and wound up trailing in the fourth quarter, only to bounce back for the victory. Also, the Hornets had to deal with leading scorer Katina Ferguson hampered by foul trouble. Finally, Madill was happy with the way her team played box-and-one defense to limit prolific Panther scorer Carli Elwin to just eight points.

Calli Remitz scored 12 points to lead the Hornet offense.
