Enumclaw High’s South Puget Sound League 3A mark dropped to 8-8 for the regular fastpitch season. This break-even record qualified the team for subdistrict play as the sixth and final seed.
Enumclaw hosted Franklin Pierce May 4 and surprised the Cardinal girls, trimming their tail feathers in an extra-inning defensive struggle 2-1.
Enumclaw’s fastballers then visited White River Friday and fell 3-1 in the regular season finale, losing to White River for the first time in eight years.
EHS coach Michael Eckhart hoped his girls got the miscues out of their system, making seven errors on the White River diamond.
Eckhart was happy, though, with senior windmiller Austin Rogers.
“Austin has stepped up, shown great senior leadership and is hitting well, too. I just couldn’t be happier with her effort,” Eckhart said.
Enumclaw is slated to begin subdistrict action against the Seamount League’s No. 3 seed at 3 p.m. Friday at Enumclaw’s Boise Creek Sixplex.
