For the eighth year in a row, the Enumclaw Garden Club, in conjunction with Make A Difference Day, a nationwide program to do community service beautifying the your local community, recently completed maintenance of the Foothills Trail near Warner Avenue and state Route 410.

This park is the most used park in Enumclaw. This year’s project was completed  by 30 women from the Enumclaw Garden Club, with the help of about 20 Scouts and a number of parents from Troop 422.  The city of Enumclaw is in charge of this park, and does a good job of mowing and cutting back the brush.  The Garden Club has a contract with the city to do the maintenance on the planting beds.  Just completed is the unveiling of a large tree with roots exposed to show the power of the wind.

The Enumclaw Garden Club, with extra help from Maureen Courtney and Marilyn Nelson, have been instrumental is designing the plantings, creating a master plan for the trees along the trail, implementing the plantings of shrubs and bulbs, as well as the yearly maintenance. The Wilkeson Sandstone Quarry trucked in loads of soil to create the raised beds, donated the sandstone and installed the stone pathways.  A Special Arts Project in the Garden Club, commissioned Al Croppi, an Enumclaw artist, to build the arch on the south side of Warner Avenue, funded through a Garden Art section in the annual spring plant sale, as well as other projects.

The Principal Group awarded the club a grant that helped fund the Blue Star Marker, benches and drinking fountain area. There have also been four Eagle Scout projects along the trail helping with some of the infrastructure. The Enumclaw Garden Club donated several benches along the trail honoring garden club members.
