A new shop with roots in the Plateau’s wine-loving community has opened its doors in downtown Enumclaw.

The shop is headed by Maria Kok, a sommelier with more than 35 years of experience in the wine retail business.

“This is a shop run by people who know wine,” said Kok, who served as wine steward at QFC in Enumclaw for eight years before heading the new venture. “We want this to be a relaxed and fun place to come.”

The shop features a wine bar, retail section, tables/seating and a “living room” in front of a fireplace where customers can read and enjoy a glass of wine.

Plateau residents partnering with Kok include Mike and Cindy Jacobsen, Doug and Peggy Ostrander, Deb Smith and Greg Cass, Ken Noggle and Ken and Virginia Borg.

“Each couple has brought something unique to the table,” said Kok. “I would never have done this without them.”

Plateau Wines will feature weekly tastings on Fridays and Saturdays, plus a monthly visit from an area winemaker. The new venture also includes the Plateau Wine Society, which for $20 a month gives members free weekly tastings, quarterly members-only wine sales, discounts and priority on all events, a year-end dividend based on annual purchases, as well as an end-of-the-year membership party.
