Frank Lucarelli and Michael and Amy Feuerborn’ among Breeders’ Cup pre-entries

While there are no Washington-breds among the 180 horses pre-entered for the Breeders' Cup World Championships set to run at Santa Anita Park on November 2 and 3, there are several horses with ties to the Pacific Northwest.

While there are no Washington-breds among the 180 horses pre-entered for the Breeders’ Cup World Championships set to run at Santa Anita Park on November 2 and 3, there are several horses with ties to the Pacific Northwest.

Tops among them are Washington-owned Class Included and Stormy Lucy and WTBOA-sold Smiling Tiger.

Michael and Amy Feuerborn’s homebred Class Included, 2012 Emerald Downs horse of the meet, is among the nine distaffers entered in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Ladies Classic (G1). The four-year-old Include filly, who has the services of two Washington Hall of Famers, trainer, Jim Penney and rider, Russell Baze. On October 28, the daughter of Included worked a bullet four furlongs in :47 flat at the Arcadia track.

The Frank Gaunt-owned and Frank Lucarelli-trained Stormy Lucy, a three-year-old stakes winner and multiple graded stakes-placed daughter of Stormy Atlantic, is among the 13 entrants in the ten-furlong, $2-million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1).

WTBOA poster boy and $1.2-million earner Smiling Tiger, who was bred by Dr. Rodney Orr of Oregon, will try to improve on his third place finish in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), in the 2012 version of the $1.5-million race.

Multiple graded stakes winner Willcox Inn, the son of Harlan’s Holiday that races in partnership for Lael Stables and All in Stable – whose participants include Jack and Theresa Hodge – is among the 13 runners set to go in the $2-million Breeders’ Cup Mile (G1).

Washington native Wesley Ward has three entrants for various clients: Great Attack in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (G1); and Almost an Angel and Sweet Shirley Mae in the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1), who are both cross-entered in the Juvenile Sprint.

Two-year-old Super Ninety Nine, a son of Pulpit bred by Jerre’ Paxton’s Northwest Farms LLC who won his only start for trainer Bob Baffert, is among the ten pre-entered in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Sprint.

Glen Todd’s North American Horse Company Inc.’s Commander, who won the B.C. Premier’s Handicap (G3) in his last start, is among the 15 nominated to the 14-furlong Breeders’ Cup Marathon (G2).

Three-year-old In Lingerie, the daughter of Empire Maker who took the Juddmonte Spinster Stakes (G1) against older distaffers in her last start, has been cross-entered in the Ladies Classic and Filly and Mare Turf. Her graded stakes-winning dam is a daughter of Storm Cat and Herman Sarkowsky’s national champion (and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies [G]] winner) Phone Chatter.
