The White River High boys cross country team edged Enumclaw for eighth place, 224-249, at the Class 3A Westside Classic Saturday at American Lake Golf Course in Lakewood.
The top eight teams and top 40 individuals move on to Saturday’s Washington Interscholastic Activities Association’s state championships at Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
Three White River runners finished among the top 40.
Sterling Frye was the top White River runner with a 25th-place finish in 16 minutes, 50 seconds. Behind him was Marcus Dickson, 27th at 16:53.5, and Kelly Gould, 34th in 17:00.4.
Bonney Lake’s Brandon Baumchen was the top finisher among the area boys. He finished in 12th place with a time of 16:37.3.
Ten seconds behind Baumchen was Enumclaw’s Larry Calvert, who finished 22nd in 16:47.2.
Other runners competing in the race were White River’s Clinton Richardson, 84th, 17:55.4; Shane Coyle, 87th, 17:58.7; Chris Fisher, 119th, 19:29.7; and Brandon Davis, 123rd, 21:24. From Enumclaw were Ryan Weller, 38th, 17:04.6; Braden Timpe, 66th, 17:35.1; Hogan Olafson, 68th, 17:38.2; Cory Johnson, 90th, 18:03; Abe Kellogg, 102nd, 18:26.1; and Kevin Nelson, 108th, 18:37.1. Representing Bonney Lake High was Reed Hawkins, who placed 52nd with a time of 17:18.9.
