Enumclaw High’s Sam Lanting and Danielle Cormier earned fourth-place finishes Saturday in Sedro Woolley.

The pair and teammate Chantel Capps were the only three wrestlers to suit up for EHS. The remaining team members sat out due to illness or high match counts.

After leading 8-6, Cormier lost a semifinal match to eventual champion Kamree Allen of Sedro Woolley. Allen scored a reversal in the closing seconds of the match and went on to win 10-8. Cormier suffered an elbow injury during the match and defaulted for fourth place.

“She knows she can beat any of the other girls in her weight bracket now,” coach Jerry Scheidt said of Cormier, who is new to the program. “She’s gaining confidence.”

Lanting lost her semifinal match to Highline’s Jamila Culcleasure and then was pinned in the final second of the medal round.

The Hornets were scheduled to wrestle White River tonight, Wednesday, but Scheidt said he and White River coach Bob Walker were thinking about nixing the match to help the girls’ match count. Enumclaw is also scheduled to face Auburn Mountainview Thursday and then head to Fife for tournament action Saturday.
