The logistics have been worked out, but the race has yet to be determined.

Stopshoppingdebbie leaves Emerald Downs for Santa Anita Monday, with Charlie Gibson Horse Transportation doing the honors of hauling the superstar filly and groom Oscar Mariscal the 1,116 miles from Auburn to Arcadia, Calif.

At Santa Anita, Stopshoppingdebbie will be stabled with trainer Carla Gaines, but will continue to be trained by Tom Wenzel, who will fly south for workouts and races.

The race, however, isn’t settled. Wenzel and owner Jerre Paxton (Northwest Farms) still say it’s either the $300,000 Zenyatta (G1) at 1 1/16 miles on Saturday, September 27, or the $100,000 LA Woman (G3) at 6 ½ furlongs on Saturday, October 4.

The Zenyatta is a prep for the $2,000,000 Breeders’ Cup Distaff on Friday, October 31, while the LA Woman is a prep for the $1,000,000 BC Filly & Mare Sprint on Saturday, November 1.
Stopshoppingdebbie (9-9-0-0-$247,728) breezed five furlongs in 1:00.60 Monday, her first drill since a scintillating win in the Emerald Distaff last month.

“She’s A-OK, everything’s a go,” Wenzel said. “She’s fit, she worked great, everything’s good.”

By Curlin-Taste the Passion, Stopshoppingdebbie is bidding to join Smarty Deb (2007 Juvenile Fillies), Gallant Son (2008) and Class Included (2012 Distaff) as Emerald Downs’ based runners to compete in the Breeders’ Cup, a list that also could include Trackattacker in the $2,000,000 Juvenile.

As for stable mates Goin to the Window and Blueberry Smoothie, an allowance race before the end of the meet is possible. Regardless, all three Paxton fillies will not race next year as 5-year-olds, and are destined to join Northwest Farms’ outstanding band of broodmares in Kentucky.

FINAL “EMERALD AM” ON SATURDAY

The monthly Emerald AM series concludes Saturday with two jam-packed hours looking into several underrated roles in horse racing.

Located on the track apron, Emerald AM begins 9 a.m. sharp and includes free coffee, snacks, Official Program and free admission to Saturday’s live racing. In the backdrop, race fans can watch horses performing their daily morning training duties including gallops, jogs and timed workouts. After the show, the track provides free tram rides touring the stable area.

Hosted by track announcer Robert Geller, Saturday’s Emerald AM kicks off with pony rider Kyrie Baze, who will be aboard her horse near the finish line. Kyrie will explain Race fans have the opportunity to learn about the lead-up to each race at Emerald Downs from the start of the post-parade to post time.

Then, former Hall of Fame jockey and steward Gary Baze stops by to discuss the roles and responsibilities of a steward, as well as his transition from rider to racing official.

The Emerald AM’s latter half of the show will focus directly on the horse itself. A farrier will give a demonstration in the paddock on how to shod a racehorse while explaining the importance and difference between certain types of race shoes.

Finally, the show’s biggest star, Wasserman, his trainer Howard Belvoir and jockey Jennifer Whitaker will pose for pictures with willing race fans in the paddock. There might even be an opportunity to hop aboard the former Longacres Mile winner.

MEBOSSMAN, DEL RIO HARBOR IN SUNDAY’S BC DERBY

Washington-breds Mebossman and Del Rio Harbor, first and second-place finishers in last month’s Emerald Derby, are among 10 sophomores entered in the $150,000 British Columbia Derby Sundayat Hastings Racecourse.

A Canadian Grade 3 at 1 1/8 miles, the BC Derby also features Alert Bay, winner of the $200,000 Echo Eddie for California-breds at Santa Anita, Koffee Grinder, winner of three stakes this summer at Hastings, and Remembertobreathe, second to Edison in the Grade 3 Canadian Derby at Northlands Park. Rounding out the field are Wonder World, Distillery, Off the Top, Tapicero and Slice of Red.

Mebossman (12-3-3-1-$109,917) and Del Rio Harbor (11-6-3-1-$180,966) have undergone personnel changes since the Emerald Derby. Mebossman was sold privately to Dr. Mark Dedomenico and North American Thoroughbred Racing Co., with Troy Taylor and Mario Gutierrez the new trainer and rider. Marshall Allen, Doris Harwood’s former assistant, will train Del Rio Harbor in Canada, with regular rider Gallyn Mitchell the jockey.

Also Sunday at Hastings, five horses that ran in the Longacres Mile*Mysterious Soul, Shooting Jacket, Mr. Bowling, Title Contender and Dontmesswithkitten*are among eight horses entered in the $50,000 S.W. Randall Plate for 3-year-olds and up at 1 1/8 miles.  Commander, 15-for-37 lifetime, carries high weight of 124 lbs.

In the $100,000 British Columbia Oaks for 3-year-old fillies at 1 1/8 miles, Ole’s Miss (8-4-2-2-$134,596), Arabella’s Muse (6-3-3-0-$124,213) and Dawselina (8-5-0-0-$74,667) are the horses to beat. Ole’s Miss triumphed over Mylast Sweet Pea in the Kent Handicap at Emerald Downs in July.
