Enumclaw High’s Alex Putnam and the doubles teams of Lauren Redman and Anna Nelson and Julie Sanders and Breanna Pierce will move on to the West Central District tournament. White River’s doubles team of Courntey Hall and Haley Havelock will also move on to the tournament.

EHS’s Tyler and Jeremy McCarthy return to the courts for the West-Central District boys tennis tournament. The brothers face the Seamount League’s No. 1 seed in the opening round which was scheduled to begin Tuesday and will continue Thursday and Saturday at Sprinker Recreation Center in Tacoma’s Parkland area. The top seven singles players and doubles teams, both boys and girls, there advance to the state tournament in Vancouver, Wash., May 28 and 29.

The McCarthys enter the tournament as the No. 6 seed from the South Puget Sound League 3A-Western Cascade Conference tournament in the fall.

For EHS, Putnam earned her No. 6 seed out of the SPSL-WCC with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Sumner’s Emily Gonzales in a winner-moves-on, loser-out match Thursday in Olympia.

Sanders and Pierce found themselves in a similar situation. After suffering a 7-5 loss in the opening set to Bonney Lake’s Katie Barrie and Jessica Roller, the Hornets rallied for a 6-3, 6-0 victory and the No. 6 seed.

Nelson and Redman earned the No. 1 seed by topping the Hendersons of Auburn Mountainview. The Hornets captured the first and third sets 6-4 and 6-2 for the win. The Lions won the second set 7-5.

The White River tandem of Hall and Havelock earned the No. 5 seed in a loser-out match with a 7-6, 6-4 win over Sumner’s Taylor Henken and Kyla Anderson.

The Hornet pairs picked up one of its rare losses at the hands of Enumclaw’s Redman and Nelson, but defeated their Capital foes, 6-3, 6-2 before topping Sumner.
