Three of the area’s high school girls track teams finished among the top eight at the West Central District 3A track and field championships Saturday at Mount Tahoma High in Tacoma.

The top seven finisher will return to Mount Tahoma for the 3A state championships, which begin Thursday with preliminary rounds and finish Saturday with the finals.

Bonney Lake, which finished second in the team standings behind Columbia River, scored individual victories in the 1,600-meter run and shot put and finished second in the 4×100 relay and third in the 4×400 relay. The Panthers finished with 63 points to first-place Columbia River’s 94. Sumner, with 42, was seventh and Enumclaw finished eighth with 41.

Three girls advanced with first-place winner Theresa Edwards of Bonney Lake in the 1,600-meter run. Edwards won the event in 5 minutes, 15.05 seconds. Sumner’s Hillary Norris was a close second at 5:16.22, while White River’s Lauryn Wate was third, 5:18.35, and Bonney Lake’s Veronica Stinnett was fifth at 5:18.54.

Edwards also finished second in the 3,200 at 11:31.75.

Norris had a personal-best time of 2:16.44 to win the 800. Stinnett took fourth at 2:20.03 and Wate was seventh at 2:23.65.

In the 400, Enumclaw’s Stephanie Schreiner finished second with a time of 59.21 seconds, while Sumner’s Ashlee Sincraugh was a close third at 59.82. White River’s Kristine Brons reached state with a seventh-place finish of 1:01.35.

Schreiner took fifth in the 200 in a time of 26.64.

In the hurdles, three girls moved on to state. Enumclaw’s Stephanie Jones finished fourth in the 300-meter event at 47.41 and Bonney Lake’s Haylie Cannon took sixth at 48.48. In the 110 hurdles, Bonney Lake’s Shelby Rowland was fourth at 15.56 and Jones finished in sixth place at 15.75.

Three teams advanced in the 4×400 relay behind first-place Camas. Sumner finished second with a time of 4:08.02 with Bonney Lake in third at 4:08.77.

Bonney Lake and Enumclaw advanced in the 4×100 relay. The Panthers finished second with a time of 50.48 and the Hornets took seventh at 51.75.

White River was seventh in the 4×200 with a time of 1:47.74.

In the field events, two girls brought home first-place medals. Schreiner won the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 5 inches and Tiara Killmer of Bonney Lake won the shot put with a throw of 41 feet.

Jones advanced in the triple jump with a third-place finish of 35 feet, 3.5 inches and Sumner’s Jessica Vandergiessen was fifth at 24-2.25.

Sumner’s Michaela Trulson took seventh in the pole vault at 8-9.
