The White River High fastpitch team had several games to make up, but since the precipitation continued so did the postponements.
The Hornets managed to get in one encounter, taking on South Puget Sound League 2A rival Sumner. It was a barn-burner of a pitcher’s duel that ended up going one extra frame, with White River winning 2-1.
Toeing the slab for White River was Sara Steinmetz, who struck out four Sumner batters and relinquished one walk. Sumner ace Allie Sims had identical statistics and each team committed two errors, which made the game even more of a cliffhanger.
White River was out front 1-0 going into the bottom of the seventh stanza, but the Spartans’ Dani Babcock scored to send the game into bonus panels.
Sumner could not keep White River at bay as the Hornets manufactured a run in the top of the eighth frame and SHS could not respond in kind.
