Nine members of the Enumclaw High track and field program headed to the Bill Harris Invitational April 19, setting plenty of personal records during the longstanding meet in Federal Way.
A limited number of Hornets made the trip.
The highlight of the day was provided by Maria Blad, who sailed 16 feet, 7.25 inches to set an EHS freshman girls record in the long jump. The leap placed her third overall in the multi-classification field. It was a banner day for Blad, who also finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.52 and was fourth in the 200 meters with a time of 28.47 seconds.
Other EHS girls competing included Hannah Calvert, second in the 1,600 meters, 5:29.69; Chandler Weiman, fourth in the 800 meters, 2:30.61; Hailey Olafson, fourth in the pole vault, 8-0; Julia Harris, seventh in the 1,600 meters, 5:59.70; and Emily Eilertson, ninth, 800 meters, 2:39.19.
The girls 4×400-meter relay team of Weiman, Calvert, Eilertson and Harris finished third with a time of 4:23.74.
Enumclaw boys competing were Logan Ross, who placed third in the pole vault, clearing 13 feet; Robby Johnson, sixth in both the 200 and 400 meters with times of 23.89 and 53.31, respectively; Cory Johnson, sixth in the 1,600 meters, 4:52.12; and Alec Rhome, seventh in the 3,200 meters, 10:32.27.
A record-setting performance also was turned in April 16 when a scaled-down Hornet crew trekked to Snohomish for the Eason Invitational.
Calvert ran the 800 meters in 2:20.82 to move to the top of the list for EHS sophomore girls. She placed second in the large field.
Also posting an impressive finish for the Hornet girls was AnnaMarie Forza, third in the javelin with a toss of 114-03. Sherry Baer and Olafson tied for 13th in the pole vault, going 7-6.
Among the EHS boys, Ross tied for fifth in the pole vault, clearing 12-6. Larry Carvert tied for 10th in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.92 and Kolton Carlson was 15th in the discus with a throw of 127-05.
