Both the Enumclaw Police Department and Enumclaw School District are investigating an incident that led to a district teacher being placed on administrative leave.
Neither side is saying much, however, as police traditionally refuse to disclose details surrounding an ongoing investigation and school district officials make certain to protect the identities of teachers until all the facts are known.
Both sides acknowledge the teacher was placed on leave, with pay, following an allegation of animal cruelty.
Pasado’s Safe Haven, an animal advocacy organization, has looked into the matter. A Pasado’s representative said the allegation revolves around a cat or cats, something confirmed by police spokesman Lt. Eric Sortland.
Kathleen Lockyer, human resources director for the Enumclaw School District, said the alleged mistreatment occurred in a classroom setting, during regular school hours.
Lockyer said the district is hoping to resolve the matter this week.
