Led by the championship performances of Dylan Fagan, Sam Lovelace, Mikaela Kilcup and Sam Mitchell, the White River High girls wrestling team won the South Puget Sound League 3A subregional tournament Saturday at Auburn Mountainview High.
Those three, along with Jesslyn Blue, Kamy Padgett and Olivia Guinn, advance to Saturday’s regional tournament at Emerald Ridge High in Puyallup. The top wrestlers there earn a trip to Mat Classic, the state wrestling championship Feb. 19 and 20 in the Tacoma Dome. Saturday’s wrestling begins at 10 a.m.
The Hornets won the tournament with 128 points. Enumclaw captured second with 109 and Foss, the host Lions and Mount Tahoma rounded out the top five.
Fagan, a freshman, scored two falls for her 140-pound title, including a 1-minute, 9-second pin over Vanessa Colmen for the crown.
Lovelace, a senior, won the 112-pound division, but details were not available.
Kilcup also won her title by fall. She pinned Maya Howard to the mat in 3:01 for the 145-pound championship. It was her second pin of the day, her first coming in 43 seconds.
The 160-pound title was harder for Mitchell, who had to post a 12-4 decision over Enumclaw rival Logann Erskine before winning a 6-5 decision over Bonney Lake’s Brianna Monahan for the championship.
Blue needed one win, a 16-10 decision, to earn her spot in the 135-pound finals with Lincoln’s Imari Jones, who won the title with a 1-minute, 51-second pin.
Padgett and Guinn each finished fourth. Padgett at 171 pounds, Guinn at 171-plus.
Nicole Crain and Morgan Shirey also wrestled for the Hornets.
