Whodunit?

Local residents are invited to help solve the mysterious death of Neil Lafferty, a fun promotion being sponsored by the Enumclaw Downtown Partnership and Stage Door Productions.

The "murder mystery" game will take place between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., June 28, in a handful of downtown Enumclaw stores. By visiting the shop and interacting with merchants, as well as picking up on some physical clues, players will try to figure out who killed Lafferty, why he was killed and who did the deed.

All are invited to participate, and there's no requirement to purchase anything. The EDP came up with the idea as a way to get people downtown during the Streetscape project.

To participate, players will first drop by the EDP office at 1525 Cole St. (upstairs in the Trommald Building). From there, they will head off for "Jack O'Hara" and his Cole Street Investigations. The fictitious business will be established in one of the rooms above Sunrise Hallmark (enter through the Griffin Avenue door). There, players will receive "credentials" to do their detective work. They will gather clues at various businesses, can watch videotaped interviews at the detective's office and will be able to examine the crime scene (a crashed car just off the Cole Street/Initial Avenue intersection).

Players can begin any time, and EDP director Genna Nashem said it's possible someone could figure the clues and solve the mystery in as little as an hour. So, she suggests no one begin the game after 3 p.m.

The winner will be the person who figures all three parts of the mystery puzzle. If more than one qualify, a winner will be chosen in a drawing. The grand prize is still being determined, but Nashem is hoping it will carry a value of several hundred dollars.

In addition, players are being urged to dress for the time period, and the mystery is set in the late 1960s/early 1970s. Those in era-appropriate attire will qualify for special prizes.
