In its only outing, White River High’s baseball squad refused to lose an old-fashioned, April Fool’s Day donnybrook against visiting Bonney Lake. The Hornets prevailed 12-9 and bettered their South Puget Sound League 3A mark to 5-1, just a step behind 6-0 Sumner.

White River faced Enumclaw Monday and today, Wednesday, hosts the Spartans.

In the slugfest with Bonney Lake, the clubs cranked out 25 hits. Neither starting pitcher survived past the fourth inning.

Although Bonney Lake’s Brian Davis, Derek Fugere and Jacob Sogolow had great afternoons at the plate, no single player had more of an impact than White River senior Dustin Stroud, who went 3-for-3 with a double and two home runs, accounting for six runs batted in.

“I thought that we might do well this season and the way we have started out, it is really exciting for the kids and the entire program,” Williams said. “I would attribute our success so far this year to the comradeship that exist on this squad because they have been playing together as a team for so long.”
