Black Diamond council, mayor battle rages on; long list of city business still on the table

Black Diamond council members first scheduled a special meeting on May 25, but the mayor also scheduled her own special meeting at the same time and date, noticing her own agenda. In response, three council members attempted to cancel the meeting, but also declined to attend. This makes the second meeting the council didn’t form a quorum, leaving a long list of city business left to be acted upon, including awarding several construction projects, finishing the city’s Comprehensive Plan and retaining building inspection services. Permanent EMS levy on ballot for Buckley

Buckley residents will be voting on a permanent EMS levy on the Aug. 2 primary election ballot. The proposed levy will tax residents at 50 cents per $1,000 in assessed property value. The measure on the Aug. 2 ballot, if approved, will not have an end date. If this measure does not pass, another measure with a six-year lifespan will be on the Nov, 4 presidential election ballot. ‘Malfunction Junction’ makeover begins

The SR 410/SR 165 makeover project has begun. The city has said there should be little, if any, traffic impact as a new traffic light is installed by November. Read about what else is happening at the intersection here.

2016 spring sports state results

Some Enumclaw and White River athletes came away victorious during this year’s state competitions, but others came against a rough end.

The White River girl’s powerlifting team took third in state, with senior Dani Barbee earning her second state title.

The school’s boys team took fifth overall at state.

Enumclaw Hornet tennis players Mariah Bone and Kylie Rademacher placed fifth while Barbie Becker and Olivia Adams were eliminated.

White River’s Kelsey Williams and Ysaline Winkel were also eliminated at state.

Enumclaw’s water polo team grabbed seventh place at state.

Both Hornet’s fastpitch teams were eliminated; Enumclaw lost the champion game.

There’s also several Hornet track and field athletes who placed high in state, including; White River Bianne Wiens (14th in pole vault); Enumclaw’s Taylor Tandecki, Josie Neu, Nikole Schroeder and Taliah Olson (1st in 4×100 relay); Aleea Gwerder, Josie Neu, Tandecki, Olson (1st in 4×400 relay); and more.

Overall, Enumclaw placed 17th at state in track and field.

The Enumclaw boys placed third overall in the 3A state golf competition – Jared Beals tied up in 14th, Josh Erickson tied at 17th and Carson Erwin tied for 26th on the boys side.

On girl’s golf team, Lexi Dechon finished 32nd.

In the 2A golf competition, White River’s Syndee Scott placed 36th and Sofia Lavinder placed 43rd.

On the boy’s side, Cooper Franklin placed 10th.
