Doubles save the day

The Bonney Lake Panthers won all three doubles matches in a 4-1 South Puget Sound League 3A victory at Franklin Pierce Thursday.

Bonney Lake split with the Cardinals in singles action as Kelli Hoffman defeated Dalina Phung. After Hoffman lost the first game, 6-1, she rallied for two wins, 6-2, 6-4.

Jessica Roller lost to Sarah Webster 6-3, 6-1.

Alise McCoy and Emily McCoy downed Cathy Wilmot and Marisa Bautista by identical 6-2 scores. Ashley Reisen and Katie Barrie easily won, 6-1, 6-0, over Maria Santiago and Leah Stippich, while Beverly Kobe and Kayla Babcock defeated Alexa Bayuok and Lenora Wilson by the same score.

Bonney Lake scored a 3-2 win over Capital in nonleague action April 14 in Olympia.

The winning points came in doubles action after the Panthers lost the two single matches.

The McCoys won their match easily, 6-1, 6-1, while Reisen and Barrie defeated their opponents 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.

Kobe and Babcock, after losing the first set 6-3, came back to score a 6-4 and 6-3 victories.

In singles action, Roller fell 6-0, 6-0, and Hoffman lost 6-0, 6-1.

In league play, Boney Lakes plays at Lakes Thursday and hosts Peninsula on Tuesday.
