A young Enumclaw girls fastpitch squad entered Saturday’s South Puget Sound League 3A subdistrict tournament at the Boise Creek Sixplex needing to win big, due to a 5-10 league record.
As they had all season long, the Hornets held their own against the first hurdle in their path, Peninsula High, losing 8-5, but the early setback demanded that the inexperienced group pull out a pressure-packed victory to stay alive.
That proved too tall an order.
What turned out to be the last contest of its 2011 season was played against Lakes High. In that loser-out struggle, Enumclaw gave the Lancers a run for their money but lost 3-2.
