Enumclaw High School Spanish teacher Molly Chang found the school’s recent staff meeting a bit surreal when she became the focus.
During the meeting, Chang was awarded a KING 5 television and Sylvan Learning Centers “Teachers Who Make A Difference Award” – one of four presented in the area.
“It was definitely a surprise,” said Chang, who has been teaching at Enumclaw High for 10 years. “I had no idea about this at all.”
Chang was nominated by student Ashley Dell’Osa and friends.
“Mrs. Chang is more than just a teacher,” Dell’Osa wrote. “Words can not describe what she has done for me and many other students. She pushes us to do our best, influences our careers, and cares about each student personally. Mrs. Change has taught me more than just Spanish.”
Following the presentation, Chang said, camera crews filmed her teaching for promotional use.
Chang is still learning what the honor entails, but understands, so far, she will toss out a pitch at a Tacoma Rainiers game this spring and get a trip to Hawaii or cash. She said she’s leaning toward the trip.
She anticipates learning more at a reception in Seattle Friday.
