Enumclaw’s summer event season  gets rolling in earnest this week as both Summer BBQ Days and the Chamber of Commerce-sponsored Wine Walk take center stage.

Summer BBQ Days is a first-time venture put on by Maple Valley resident Keith Blaine, who has hooked up with the Pacific Northwest Barbecue Association. He has experience as a festival vendor and, in Kent, crossed over to putting on that city’s Winter Craft Bazaar. If things go well, he hopes to do events full-time.

BBQ Days will operate from noon to 8 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Enumclaw Expo Center. Blaine promises food vendors will be selling top-notch chicken, sausage, ribs, brisket and more. There will be three professional barbecue teams on-site, including Sugar’s Barbecue from the Portland, Ore., area, one of the top 50 barbecue operations in the nation.

Aside from the food, there will be artists and crafters on hand, selling their creations. There will be live music both days and pony rides on Sunday.

Admission will be $3, with children 12 and younger getting  in free, and there’s no fee for parking.

The Wine Walk follows on the heels of a successful fall event that saw every ticket sold.

The Wine Walk will take over downtown from 3 to 9 p.m. Saturday. Participants must purchase a “passport” that allows for 10 wine tastings and a crystal wine glass. The cost is $30 in advance or $35 the day of the event.

More than 20 businesses will host 20-plus wineries and, along the way, guests will enjoy musical entertainment and the work of local artists.
