Every once in a while the stars line up just right and a simple, yet lucrative idea is acted upon. That is what happened for 31-year-old entrepreneur Jennifer Frick when she determined the time was right to open the Main Street Coffee House in Buckley.

“There is always a little bit of trepidation when it comes to starting your own business, especially in these hard times,” she said, “but everything just sort of came to together at once and it is one decision I have no regrets about making.

Frick said her venture is growing in popularity every day as news spreads of the coffee shop.

“We had our grand opening the other day, with live music and drink specials,” she said. “We had people pouring in here.”

Frick’s husband Matthew is a contractor, so she was able to get a family discount on the interior design of the cozy establishment, which was previously a Curves workout center. The interior features a fireplace, hardwood floors and a seating area for those ordering a cup of Cafe DaArte’, the robust roasted house bean.

The Main Street Coffee House offers amenities aimed to make it popular for all ages. Wireless Internet is available and the paintings on the wall are for sale and will feature a different artist every other month.

The drink favorite amongst the younger clientele is “Rockin’ Soda,” made like an Italian soda but with Rock Star energy drink as the primary ingredient. “Now that school has started we have a lot of teenagers coming in with their laptops and doing their homework with friends or just by themselves,” Frick said.

Another specialty is ready-to-go salads and sandwiches.

“We make those up fresh early in the morning, so if people want to, they can come in, pick up a latté and grab something for lunch as well,” Frick said. “People seem to like the idea, because we have never had leftovers.”

One of the shop’s six employees can deliver the salads and sandwiches if the purchaser is within walking distance; otherwise there is a $20 minimum order to have items delivered.

“I get to meet all sorts of individuals whom I would otherwise have never had the opportunity to chat with,” Frick said, adding that she has opened businesses for other people during her career in retail, but it is special to be calling the shots for her own venture.
