EHS and WRHS WRESTLING: Enumclaw finishes third at SPSL Tournament

Against some of the strongest wrestling teams in the state, Enumclaw High finished third at the South Puget Sound League Tournament Thursday and Friday at Auburn High. In the mix of 32 Class 4A, 3A and 2A schools, No. 2-ranked 4A Tahoma was declared the winner with 261.5 points, followed closely by No. 4-ranked 4A Graham-Kapowsin with 188 and Enumclaw, the No. 2-ranked 3A team in the state, with 186.5. SPSL 3A foe Bonney Lake finished fourth with 176.6 and 2A White River was 15th with 83 points. Enumclaw scored big points with champions Justin Mitchell and Colten Malek. Mitchell earned the 152-pound title with a 9-3 win over Trevor Anderson of Bethel, while Malek sewed up the 220-pound crown with a 15-5 major decision over Mikey Ramos of Graham-Kapowsin.

Against some of the strongest wrestling teams in the state, Enumclaw High finished third at the South Puget Sound League Tournament Thursday and Friday at Auburn High.

In the mix of 32 Class 4A, 3A and 2A schools, No. 2-ranked 4A Tahoma was declared the winner with 261.5 points, followed closely by No. 4-ranked 4A Graham-Kapowsin with 188 and Enumclaw, the No. 2-ranked 3A team in the state, with 186.5. Enumclaw scored big points with champions Justin Mitchell and Colten Malek. Mitchell earned the 152-pound title with a 9-3 win over Trevor Anderson of Bethel, while Malek sewed up the 220-pound crown with a 15-5 major decision over Mikey Ramos of Graham-Kapowsin.

The Hornets’ Tyke Reid was a runner-up at 120 pounds, dropping a 4-0 decision to SPSL 3A rival Andrew Cunningham of Bonney Lake.

Fellow Enumclaw teammates Ryan Anderson and T.J. Cormier finished third at 160 and 195 respectively.

Travis Reano earned a fifth-place finish at 132 and Garrett Grau was eighth at 285.

For White River, Chris Skinner finished fourth at 182 pounds. Hornets Carl Klein and Brandon Short finished seventh at 126 and 145 pounds respectively.

Lucas Doll was eighth at 106 pounds.

Both Hornet teams return to action Wednesday, Jan. 4, against each other in the Hornet-Hornet battle. The nonleague contest is set for 7 p.m. in Enumclaw.
