Information in Review:
Calling all students and parents in Enumclaw School District! Be sure to attend our first ever STEM Expo showcasing the use of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) in ESD’s education system and career paths after graduation. It will take place on Thursday, October 11 from 4 to 7 pm in the EHS Commons.
This free, community event will feature hands-on activities for kindergarteners to 12th graders. Students will have a chance to see, touch and learn about education and career opportunities that use STEM skills. You’ll be able to:
• tour the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee (AJAC) mobile training unit;
• use robotics kits to build a terrestrial rover from the Museum of Flight;
• find out about STEM learning opportunities at ESH such as the Robotics Club and Glass Works class;
• meet local and regional business representative who use STEM skills in their jobs, many related to the aerospace field.
RETAKE PHOTO DAY is Thursday, October 11 from 8:00 to 11:30AM in the Auditorium Lobby This is for students that did not like their photos or new students or anyone else that did not get their photos taken. Everyone is required to have and ID card. They are free. ASB cards are $40.00.
REMINDER SENIORS: Your Senior Photo is due to Mr. Wallace’s room, #1005 by October 15.
Seniors, Jostens will be at Enumclaw on Tuesday, October 16th for your Graduation Cap, Gown, & Ring purchase day. Bring your completed order form and an $80 deposit to the Commons during lunch. You may also buy your cap & gown at the parent order night on October 16th from 5:30—7 p.m. in the Commons. Extra forms are in the Main Office & Activities Office, soon.
PSAT will be administered at EHS on Wednesday, October 17 from 8AM – 11AM in the gym and library. This test is an opportunity to practice taking this kind of test before taking the SAT later this year. Juniors going to a 4 year college will want to take this test. Sophomores and freshmen are also welcome to take this as a practice to be ready for the test when you are a junior. Juniors who do well on this test will be completing for 9,600 scholarships with the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. Sign up soon in at the Cashier’s office. The cost is $20.
Saturday, October 20th is the alternate day to take the PSAT. If you want to take the test Saturday you can arrange that with Tahoma HS, Auburn HS, Auburn-Riverside HS or Bonney Lake HS.
EHS Student Football Fans: Thank you for your continued support of Enumclaw High School football at Pete’s Pool. A special announcement to all the tailgaters who enjoy pre-game activities in the parking lots—at the start of game time, all EHS students must either enter the stadium or leave the parking lots. Thanks for your understanding of this new safety requirement.
“Hey Hornets” – After school math tutoring is running again. So, whether you really struggle in math or just need help with a few questions, stop by and see us. Tutoring is currently available on Tuesdays in Portable 10 and Thursdays in Room 211. Tutoring begins at 2:40 and is available until 3:30.
High School basketball open gyms are Mondays, from 6:30 to 8:30pm. Open to all Enumclaw High School students. Any students currently in a fall sport are highly encouraged to get written permission from their coach to participate.
ATTENTION ALL STUDENTS: If you are sick and in class, you need to go to the Health room. (inside Attendance room) Students are not to call their parents from another phone and remain in class ill. The nurse will then assist you with your illness and in calling a parent or guardian. This is in attempt to control the spread of illness on our campus.

Congratulations to the girls’ golf team who remain undefeated by beating Auburn Mountainview 146 to 89. The team was lead by Madeline Petellin’s 42. Both boys and girls are in 1st place as they head into the final 4 matches of the season. GO HORNETS!

Counseling News:
Our first session of Credit Retrieval begins October 15th. Registration sheets are available in the Main Office and Counseling Center. Space is limited and on a first come first served basis.
The October Scholarship and College Information Lists are now available. Pick up your copy at the career or Counseling Center or go to the career center swift website to print a copy.
WSU Regents Scholarship: If you are a senior with a minimum GPA of 3.8 and you are interested in attending WSU stop by the counseling center to sign up for the Regents scholarship. The deadline to sign up is October 22nd.
CLUBS:
Native American /Alaskan Native Club meets monthly with no fees to participate. The group will learn leadership skills and participate in cultural events. If you have questions please see Cathy in the Counseling Center.
Join the Weight Club for fall season. We meet at 2:30-4:00PM on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Pay $10 at the cashier’ office with your Weight Club form and your good to go. See Mr. Gutierrez in room 209 if any questions.

COMMUNITY Happenings:
The Enumclaw Clothing Bank: We are open every Tuesday from 10am-6pm. (closed on school closures and holidays) We are located at the JJ Smith building on Fell St. in the old library.
Plateau Health and Wellness Expo – Saturday, October 6, 2012 from 10:00 – 3:00 in the EHS Commons.….an important family-fun event for all ages. It’s free and open to the entire community.
STEM Expo -October 11 from 4:00 – 7:00 in the EHS Commons. (This is a collaboration of the ESD and ESF…Superintendent Mike Nelson will be writing more about it in his Sunday Evening News on October 7.) Come see the new technology that teachers and students are using and check out 35 booths of local and area businesses highlighting how Science, Technology, Engineering and Math are an integral part of their business. It’s free and open to all ages.
Bras for the Cause- October 11 from 5:00 – 7:00 at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital. Come see decorated bras to support Breast Cancer Awareness. Beverages will be available for purchase and cheese/crackers will be provided. Go to the STEM Expo and then stop by St. Elizabeth’s!
Crystal Mountain Job Fair will be October 13th from 9 am to 1 pm at the Crystal Mountain Day Lodge.
Neighbors Feeding Neighbors – Thursday, October 18 from 6:00-8:00PM in the Enumclaw Library. This is a Town Hall meeting seeking volunteers for a couple of programs being stated in our community to address hunger.
The Money Maze: Finding Money for College, Thursday, October 18 at 6:00PM, held at GRCC – Enumclaw Campus, room 16. This workshop will give the ins and outs of college finances.
Pasta with a Purpose- Saturday, October 27 at the EHS Commons. This is the annual fundraiser dinner auction for Plateau Outreach Ministries. Ticket information will be available soon!
