The renewal of a levy to support Buckley’s emergency medical services is on the Nov. 2 ballot.

The levy funds basic and advanced emergency medical services, including paramedics, their training and any equipment, supplies, vehicles needed to perform their jobs.

The levy rate is 50 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value, so the owner of property valued at $200,000 pays $100 a year.

The current levy began in January 2005 and expires at the end of 2010. The new levy also has a six-year lifespan, beginning in January and running through the end of 2016.

“This is not a new levy,” Fire Chief Alan Predmore said. “This is the same levy citizens of Buckley have been paying for the last six years. It’s the only source of funding we have for those services and it will ensure that they can continue receiving help from paramedics and other emergency medical services.”

The levy is Proposition No. 1 on the ballot.
