Usually it’s the customers at Peek-A-Brew Espresso who get to see a little skin, but a flasher reversed the roles for one barista.
Police in Bonney Lake arrested a man for allegedly exposing himself at a gas station and in front of a barista.
The man has not yet been formally charged so The Courier-Herald is not releasing his name.
According to a police report, officers were dispatched to the Peek-A-Brew espresso on state Route 410 at approximately 6 p.m. Dec. 18 for a report of a white, male suspect standing on a boulder on the north side of the establishment wearing no pants and masturbating while looking at the barista.
The barista called police as the suspect approached the window, before he fled east toward Starbucks.
About an hour later, officers were again dispatched to the area. This time, they were sent to the gas station at Safeway where a female employee had experienced a similar incident earlier at approximately 4:45 p.m.
According to the employee, a man in a distinctive car drove up near the office instead of the fuel pumps. When the employee looked out at the car, she could see the man was not wearing pants and appeared to be masturbating.
The employee made note of the car and told her supervisor. Police contacted the supervisor and viewed video surveillance footage of the vehicle which confirmed the employee’s story.
On Dec. 19, police were again called to the gas station at Safeway because the employee again recognized the car from the prior day’s incident, though this time the man did not commit any lewd conduct.
As police were verifying the information, the officer saw a car matching the description drive past.
Police stopped the vehicle and asked to speak to the driver in private because he had his girlfriend’s niece in the car with him. Her mother was called to pick her up.
The driver was read his rights but said he did not know why he was stopped.
He was discovered to be driving with license suspended and it was also discovered he was required to have an ignition interlock device on his car. The car he was driving did not have a device, but was registered to his girlfriend.
After the suspect was identified by one of the victims, he was transported to the public safety building. He was read his rights, which he then waived.
He said he had no intention of hurting anyone and when asked about whether the only places he had done this was the coffee shop and the gas station he looked at the officer inquisitively and asked “gas station?”
The officer reminded him there was surveillance footage of him in his car and the suspect slouched and said “Ok, I did it.”
The suspect admitted to police he gets a thrill out of being seen nude in public and said he was charged with a similar crime before in Puyallup. He also admitted to masturbating at the gas pumps before going to the coffee shop.
When the suspect told police he was wearing sweatpants at the coffee shop, the officer advised him he was seen nude from the waist down and he corrected himself, stating he removed his pants and left them behind the mortgage building before exposing himself to the barista.
He was cited on two charges of indecent exposure, advised of his court date and was released. Police also cited him for driving with license suspended and violation of an ignition interlock restriction.
