In its only South Puget Sound League 3A contest last week, Sumner High’s fastpitch squad hosted the Lakes Lancers and lost 6-4.
The Spartan girls registered all four of their runs in the close encounter’s second inning, keyed by the hitting of sophomores Katie Hester and Sara Heuett, to surge to a 4-1 advantage. The Lancers battled back, rallying for five more runs, while Sumner could muster no more offense for the remainder of the meeting.
The loss to Lakes made Sumner’s league record 2-4 and put it at 4-3 mark overall.
