Bonney Lake library offers free movie showings

Free movie series starts Sept. 21

Now that the summer movie season is over, people are discussing the upcoming fall and winter months when movies with a strong likelihood of being nominated for Academy Awards are released.

The Bonney Lake Pierce County Library is hosting movie nights and classic films, some of which received Oscar nominations and wins are on the list of upcoming attractions.

Monday at the Movies is an event sponsored by Friends of Pierce County Library and features free movies and popcorn.

Mary Getchell, communications director for the Pierce County Library System said the films selected are all popular rentals from the library system.

“We have really strong checkout rates,” Getchell said.

Monday at the Movies begins Sept. 21 with “Casablanca”, which won three Academy Awards including Best Picture.

On Oct. 19 “The Hound of the Baskervilles” a Sherlock Holmes mystery is shown.

“The Bridge on the River Kwai” shows on Nov. 16. The film won seven Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Actor in a Leading Role, Alec Guinness.

Just in time for Christmas, Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” shows at the library Dec. 21.

All showings are at 6 p.m. in the Bonney Lake Pierce County Library.
