The Pierce County library System’s Board of Trustees is conducting a study session regarding the library’s five-year budget.

The Board of Trustees is meeting at the Pierce County library System’s Processing and Administrative Center on Tuesday from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. The center is located at 3005 112th St. E. in Tacoma.

Projections of library revenue and expenditures during the next five years are provided by library managers.

Anticipation of declining tax revenue means the library must tighten its belt.

Main reasons for declining revenue are reduced values on properties and a drop in the construction of new buildings, which triggers less property tax revenue for the library.

Approximately 97 percent of funding comes from taxes on houses, commercial buildings and other property.

Managers, staff and the community are to share ideas on which services to eliminate, while continuing to meet the needs of library users.
