Bonney Lake High rolled out the red carpet for Auburn Mountainview April 12 and roughed up the Lions’ Steve Johnson, who has been generally regarded as the best starting pitcher in the South Puget Sound League 3A. The Panthers rolled to a 7-2 victory.
The Panthers chased Johnson from the encounter, as he relinquished eight hits and seven runs. Slick fielding and speedy shortstop, Michael Gretler went 2 for 3 with his bat, for three runs batted in; he had three stolen bases as well.
The next day the Panthers traveled to the Lion’s den and trimmed AMHS 3-2. This time around it was the Joey Gamache show as the lanky left handed pitcher helped his own cause from the hill and the plate. The slender southpaw mowed down one Lion batter after another and went 2-for-3 from the batter’s box with a double, a homer and two RBIs.
After getting a leg up in league action at 5-2 in the SPSL 3A standings, BLHS took advantage of a rare nice day Saturday to host the topsy-turvy Gators of Decatur High.
Bolstered by a grand slam, the Gators jumped out to a 6-0 advantage in the top of the fourth inning. The Panther lumber took a slumber. All BLHS could muster in terms of a comeback was one run, which crystalized the final numbers at 6-1 in favor of Decatur.
