With the city council’s decision to put a metropolitan parks district on the ballot in April, committees both for and against the measure are being formed.

The council has the responsibility of appointing committee members to prepare voters guide statements to be appointed by Feb. 12 and are seeking applicants for both “pro” and “con” committees.

The job of the committee is to write a statement in favor of – or in opposition to – the upcoming ballot measure. The statement must be submitted to Pierce County Elections by March 11.

Pierce County will then provide each committee with the opposing side’s statement so they may submit a rebuttal by March 13.

The word limit on the original statement is 150 words with a limit of 75 on the rebuttal.

There is a limit of three official members for each committee. The city will use the regular application for membership form, available on the city’s website. Applicants should write “MPD Pro Committee” or “MPD Con Committee” on the line asking for the name of the board for which you are applying.

Interested parties are asked to submit a form as soon as possible. Forms are available on the city’s website at www.citybonneylake.org, under the “government” and then “committees, commissions and boards” tabs.
