Suspect jumps out of car, lets it roll into fence as police chase | BONNEY LAKE POLICE BLOTTER

Bonney Lake Police Blotter for the week of Dec. 7, 2011.

PROWL: Police on Nov. 21 took a report of a vehicle prowl in the 18300 block of 74th Street East. The victim reported that an unknown person entered his unlocked vehicle and took an iPod, a video camera and a GOS unit. Police are investigating.

COUNTERFEIT: Officers on Nov. 21 were dispatched to the AM/PM for a report of a counterfeit $10 bill. The customer who gave the clerk the bill stayed to wait for police and told the officer she got it as change at a local bar. The officer and the patron went back tot he bar to find the source, but the bartender said she had gotten from the register, where someone else must have used it in a purchase. The bartender apologized and gave the customer $10. Police placed the counterfeit bill into the evidence room and are investigating.

BURGLARY: Police on Nov. 23 took a burglary report from a resident in the 9900 block of 200th Avenue East. The victim told  police the burglary happened in the past 10 days. The caller was calling from out of state and said an unknown person entered the residence through by breaking a window. Missing were two refrigerators, two microwaves, one oven, one sink and an undetermined amount of copper wire. Police are investigating.

SWITCHED TABS: Police on routine patrol just after midnight on Nov. 24 pulled over a car on 214th Avenue after a routine check revealed the car’s registration expired in August. The tab on the plate showed august 2012, however. The driver told police he just purchased the car and was unaware of the switched or expired tabs. The driver had no license and no proof of identification. He was cites for no valid operators license, expired tabs and no proof of insurance. The officer removed the 2012 tab from the license plate destroying it in the process. A passenger with a valid license took control of the vehicle.

AT LEAST SET THE BRAKE: Police on Nov. 24 were dispatched to the 17800 block of state Route 410 for a report of a recklessly driven vehicle. The officer observed the vehicle eastbound in the center lane of travel. The vehicle made a lane change without signaling and then sped up, cut off another vehicle and turned down South Prairie Road. The officer activated his emergency lights as the car turned into the Lowe’s parking lot, but did not slow down until it reached the Sonic lot. As the car started to enter a stall, the driver side door opened and the driver jumped out and took off on foot as the vehicle, still occupied by three passengers, continued to roll over a curb and into a fence. The officer gave chase as the suspect ran through the Discount Tire lot, jumped down a hill and rolled to SR410. Police set up a containment area near the stove/fireplace store and after five minutes, the officers noticed the suspect hiding in the bushes. The subject was held at gunpoint and then placed into handcuffs and put in the back of a police car. Meanwhile, the three passengers told the officer they had no idea why the driver ran, but said he began to panic when he saw the officer behind him.  The driver told police he had warrants out for his arrest and did not want to go to jail. He did not, however, have any outstanding warrants. He was transported to Buckley Jail and booked for driving with license suspended, no ignition interlock, hit and run and obstructing. He was also issued a notice of infraction for improper passing.

FIGHT: Police on the evening of Nov.25 were sent to a report of an assault in progress in the parking lot in front of the New Peking. While en route, dispatch informed the officer that the suspect was fleeing eastbound on foot behind the Fred Meyer. Police contacted the victim, who was bleeding from his nose and lips and gave the police a description of the suspects, who were seen walking into Babalouis. As police approached, the suspect immediately ran, but was detained after about 100 yards. The victim told police that he and two other men, including the suspect, were going to a party but when they were arrived, people were leaving, including an unidentified male. After deciding to go to the bar, the unidentified male made a comment about a family member coming to the bar. When the victim asked who the brother was, the unidentified male asked if there was a problem and then punched the victim twice in face. The victim responded by putting the unidentified man in a choke hold. The man and the suspect in custody then ran from the scene. An officer saw the men switch shirts, which the suspect said was so the unidentified male could run away. The suspect said he did not know the man and could not come up with an answer as to why he went through so much trouble to let him get away. The suspect was arrested, transported to Buckley Jail and booked for disorderly conduct because he admitted to being part of the fight.

SUSPICIOUS: Police on Nov. 25 were patrolling the area near WalMart when he noticed a subject standing next to a pick-up truck. The subject stopped when the officer drove by, but it was obvious he had been loading crates into his truck as there were approximately 50 in the truck. WalMart does not allow people to take crates from the property. A records search revealed the man had two outstanding misdemeanor warrants through Pierce County and the City of Kent. He was transferred to custody of Kent Police.

PROWL: Police on Nov. 26 were dispatched ot Bonney Lake High School for a report of a purse stolen from a vehicle in the school’s lot. The purse contained an expensive wallet, $200, a debit card, social security card, birth certificate card and keys. The victim’s cell phone was still plugged in to the dash, however. Police are investigating.

OBSTRUCTING: Police on Nov. 26 were on routine patrol on South Prairie Road when the officer noticed a vehicle with a cracked windshield that was obstructing the driver’s view and pulled over the vehcile. The driver told police he did not have a valid license, but provided an identification card. A records check showed the driver did not match the description on the name on the card, including different colored eyes and a different height. The photo also did not match. The driver admitted he lied and gave his real name, which revealed him to be driving with license suspended and had multiple misdemeanor warrants, including three form Orting, four from Pierce County and one from Enumclaw. The driver was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on charges of DWLS and misleading statements as well as his Orting warrants.

SHOPLIFTING: Police on Nov. 29 were dispatched to Target for a shoplifting call. Store security reported a woman stole several jewelry items totaling ore than $100. When security attempted to contact her and bring her back in the store she refused and drove away. Police located the suspect’s vehicle in the WalMart parking lot and waited for her to return. Several minutes later, the police saw a woman matching the suspect’s description leave the store and walking toward the car. She was now also carrying a jacket and a WalMart bag with several items in it. She was arrested as she reached her vehicle and immediately admitted to stealing the jewelry and then admitting to having just stolen additional merchandise from WalMart, including the jacket. She was transported to Buckley Jail and booked on two counts of theft.
