SUMNER POLICE BLOTTER

SHOPLIFTING: At approximately 2:44 p.m. Sept. 14, officers responded to the 1200 block of Valley Avenue to a report of two juvenile shoplifters in custody. Upon arrival the officer contacted the loss prevention agent and the two shoplifters in the office of the business. Both subjects were asked for their identification and said they did not have any and could not provide the officer with any information to confirm their identities. It was discovered that both subjects had provided the officer with false information. Both advised they stole the items because they were thirsty.

Both subjects were then trespassed from the business and were transported back to the police department to be fingerprinted, photographed and to wait for their parents. One of the subjects was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. Charges of third-degree theft and making a false or misleading statement to a public servant are being requested for both subjects through the Pierce County Juvenile Court. An additional charge of possession of drug paraphernalia is being requested for one subject.

KITCHEN FIRE: At approximately 4:08 p.m. Sept. 23, officers responded to a kitchen fire in the 7600 block of the Orting Highway. Officers arrived before the fire department and were able to extinguish the flames.
