Heading into this final week of the regular soccer season, the Bonney Lake Panthers found themselves on the verge of capturing a South Puget Sound League 3A championship.

With a 5-0 league record (7-3-3 overall), the Panthers were slated to play the tough Auburn Mountainview Lions on the road Tuesday, then finish the campaign by hosting district rival Sumner High Friday.

Bonney Lake is coming off a week in which the team battled to a scoreless tie with Wilson High of Tacoma Thursday, two days after picking up a league victory, 2-0 over the visiting White River Hornets. Against White River, the Panthers received goals from Zach Parmley and Bryant Maxey, bolstering the shutout goalkeeping of Alex Hall. Parmley scored in the 20th minute and Maxey added the clincher in the 78th minute.
