On August 24, a 93 year old Enumclaw woman fell victim to a burglary likely involving a man impersonating a wild land firefighter.
The victim reported on August 25th that some of her property was stolen from her garage. She then remembered that she had been visited the day before by a Black male wearing yellow work and clothes carrying a clipboard. The clothes he wore and his fire safety ruse on her leads investigators to believe that he was impersonating a wild land firefighter.
The man said that he visited her to check on fire hazards inside her home. She allowed him into her house. He looked around her house, checked her appliances and told her everything appeared okay. He left never entering the garage where she discovered items were stolen. We believe that the man may have acted to distract the victim while one or more accomplices stole items from inside the woman’s garage.
The King County Sheriff’s Office would like area residents to call 911 if somebody appears to be impersonating a firefighter doing unscheduled safety checks at their house. The Sheriff’s Office wants anybody who has already seen somebody matching this description to call (206) 296-3311 to provide a crime tip for detectives to investigate.
