The Benefit Night talent show takes place Thursday and Friday nights at 7 p.m. in the Sumner High School Performing Arts Center.

This is the seventh year Sumner High School’s Associated Student Body has raised money for a community member in need. The beneficiary for 2013 is Dean Inglin, a Sumner family man and brain cancer patient. Inglin and his family are involved members of the high school and community. He is an active member of the Sumner Rotary Club and a supporter of the Recreation Department and local Little League.

Wednesday night’s Benefit Night dinner and silent auction packed the house. Last year’s dinner brought in approximately 150 people in total, according to student members of the school’s leadership program; this year saw more than 100 pre-sales alone. It was the third year the dinner and auction were a part of Benefit Night.

The money raised will alleviate the Inglin family’s costs for medical care, lost income, travel to treatment and home remodeling to accommodate the onset of paralysis and weakness in the right side of his body. Inglin’s condition is severe and incurable; his family and friends seek to improve his quality of life for as long as possible, according to a Sumner School District press release for the benefit.

Tickets for the talent show are $8 and can be purchased at the door. The Performing Arts Center is located at 1707 Main Street in Sumner.
