Drivers heading into Seattle should plan for heavy traffic in the days following Thanksgiving due to several large seasonal events.

Shoppers will hit the downtown area for Black Friday deals and for the annual Macy’s Holiday Parade downtown, while the Husky and Cougar faithful will pack Montlake for the Apple Cup.

Sunday morning drivers should add extra time to their trips and be prepared for closures of the express lanes on Interstates 5 and 90 along with several ramp closures for the Seattle Marathon.

Friday, Nov. 29 The southbound I-5 off-ramp to Union Street will be closed from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Other downtown Seattle exits will likely experience heavy traffic as people make their way to the annual Macy’s Holiday Parade beginning at 9 a.m.

Friday, Nov. 29 Apple Cup at Husky Stadium, 12:30 p.m. kickoff. Expect heavy congestion near the University District on I-5 and State Route 520 at Montlake.

Sunday, Dec. 1 The Seattle Marathon will affect traffic with lane and ramp closures.

• The I-90 express lanes will be closed to all traffic from 5 to 11:30 a.m. when they will open in the eastbound direction.
• The I-5 express lanes will be closed until 9:30 a.m., when they will reopen to southbound traffic.
• The northbound I-5 off-ramp to Lakeview Boulevard will be closed from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
• The westbound State Route 520 exit to East Roanoke Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
