SMOKING POT: Officers responded April 17 to the 1800 block of 16th Street on a tip that subjects were talking about breaking into a residence. On arrival, the officers could hear male voices resonating from the stairwell of the address. An odor of marijuana sat in the air as police entered and witnessed a juvenile holding a pipe up to his mouth. The boy with the pipe noticed the officer and subsequently appeared to make a go at hiding the pipe in his closed hand. Then he dropped the pipe on the ground. There were four more boys present, all of whom appeared to be under the influence. The juvenile with the pipe had another pipe and two containers of green vegetable matter on him. Officers contacted the kids’ parents to advise them of their crime; one boy was booked into jail for possession.
SAFETY THIEF: At 7:48 p.m. April 19, an apartment manager contacted police after she observed a man who had stolen a fire extinguisher the night before walk by her property. She told the officer that several days prior, she had reported three more fire extinguishers stolen and apparently sprayed around the area. A colleague of the investigating officer indicated that a known subject could be the culprit. The officer created a photo lineup and asked the apartment manager to examine it. She looked it over and said she was “pretty confident” she recognized the suspect in the lineup. The report was sent to the juvenile prosecutor for review; possible charges are pending.
