MAILBOX THEFT: Officers were called Oct. 18 to a report of mailbox theft. The victim told officers he noticed that his and all of his neighbors mailbox doors were open and empty. He was unsure what could have been taken and said he’d notify his neighbors of the theft.

ELUDED OFFICERS: Officers ran a random license check on a vehicle parked at a gas station on Oct. 20 when they learned the car was reported stolen out of Yakima two days ago. Officers did not see anyone near the vehicle so they parked and waited until a man got into the car. Officers approached the stolen car in their patrol car when the driver took off in an attempt to elude officers. Cutting onto the sidewalk and through a grass embankment at a high rate of speed, officers trapped the car behind the Regal cinema but the driver had exited. A K9 unit was brought to the scene and Sumner PD and Pierce County deputies set up a perimeter. The K9 unit quickly found the driver, who fought with the dog. After being bitten, officers handcuffed the driver and requested medical aid. The man was transported to a local hospital and charged with possession of a stolen car, eluding officers, resisting arrest and driving with a suspended license.
