Sumner Fastpitch: Team takes seed 6 after playing Lindbergh and White River

Results from those games have not been submitted as of press time, but evidently defeated Lindbergh and lost to White River, which took eight and fifth seed, respectively.

The Spartans have wound up in Seed No. 6 of the West Central District III 2A fastpitch tournament. Sumner High’s fastpitch softball team played Lindbergh and White River high schools on Saturday to achieve its seed. Results from those games have not been submitted as of press time, but evidently defeated Lindbergh and lost to White River, which took eight and fifth seed, respectively.

In the last days of the season, the Spartans were struck by hard luck.

The team lost 15-0 to Franklin Pierce May 4 and 3-0 to Fife May 7.

Versus Franklin Pierce, Paige Deck had three hits out of four at-bats. Stephanie Franco hit a homer once in her four at-bats. Anna Lennox also hit a homer, and had three hits out of four at-bats.

The Spartans additionally lost to White River High 4-2 on Tuesday. Sumner made one run each in the fourth and fifth innings, but White River made all four of its runs in the sixth inning.
