Shoppers in Bonney Lake may soon have a new place to pick up sporting goods as Big 5 Sports last week filed a pre-application with the city’s Planning Department to build a new store in Eastown.

Plans call for the construction of a 20,000-square-foot building behind the Mazatlan Restaurant on the 1.6-acre site presently occupied by United Rentals.

The current, 9,500-square-foot building is slated for demolition under the construction plans.

The new building is set to house two tenants: the sporting goods store and a Dollar Store.
