There was no place like home for the Sumner High volleyball squad last week as it was able to overcome league enemy Steilacoom 3-2.
The Spartan six-pack, which had failed to claim a South Puget Sound League 2A victory going into Thursday’s home confrontation with Steilacoom, managed to emerge victorious in the SPSL 2A volleyball wars as it toppled the Sentinels 25-13, 27-25, 24-26, 13-25 and 15-8.
Rallying the troops was senior setter Sara Huette, who not only recorded 28 assists, but additionally sent seven service aces.
Karissa Smith came up with 25 digs and Hayley Steinman went on a killing spree, burying a dozen daggers into the heart of the Steilacoom defense.
Sumner played Eatonville in SPSL 2A action Monday evening, with results arriving too late to report here, and will welcome unbeaten White River at 7 :15 tonight, Wednesday.
