HIT AND RUN: On Dec. 6 at approximately 12:06 p.m. an officer responded to the 15500 block of 62nd Street Court East for a report of a hit and run collision. The witness advised she saw a vehicle drive over a flower bed and collide with another vehicle. The suspect vehicle then backed up, paused for a moment, then slowly drove away. The witness contacted the establishment, which contacted the victim and advised her of the incident. A few days later an officer was called to an address to look at a possible suspect vehicle regarding this incident. The officer responded and inspected the damage to the possible suspect vehicle. A citizen advised they knew where the owner of the vehicle lived and pointed the location out to the officer and advised that the owner of the vehicle does not drive and that her daughter has been driving the vehicle for quite some time. The officer went to the identified location and knocked on the door. The door was answered by a subject who is known by the officer. When the officer asked the subject about the incident she admitted to being in the accident and having a suspended her driver’s license and no insurance for the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle is being charged with hit and run and driving while license is suspended.
ARMED ROBBERY: On Dec. 6 at approximately 2:24 p.m. officers responded to the 6600 block of 166th Avenue East for a report of an armed robbery which just occurred. It was reported the suspect was last seen leaving on foot. Sumner police officers and officers from neighboring jurisdictions gathered in the area to set up containment and a K-9 team was also requested. As it turned out a Sumner police officer was in the store making a purchase at the same time the robber came in, though it was not realized until later. The suspect got away that day, but not for long. After some extensive investigating and collaborative effort among many police departments a suspect was arrested and booked into Pierce County Jail. Robbery charges are being requested through the Pierce County Prosecutor’s Office. The suspect was also linked to two robberies in a neighboring city.
