It took about 13 minutes for the Bonney Lake City Council to breeze through its April 28 agenda.

During the brief meeting, the council passed an ordinance to establish guidelines for naming city parks, open spaces and other municipal facilities.

Under the ordinance, the council will designate the names of public parks and recreation facilities, but will not make its selection until reviewed by the Parks Board.

In naming city facilities, the council will designate names and make its selection only after receiving a recommendation form the mayor.

The council passed a resolution for an agreement with Piece County to consummate the acquisition of the Cimmer parcel by the city under the Conservation Futures program.

The county signed a purchase and sale agreement with the landowners, and Bonney Lake will pay $390,000 plus a portion of the closing cost.

Under the resolution, the county assigns its right and duties to the city. An agreement between both entities will allow the city to install trails, picnic tables, rest areas, benches, restrooms, parking lots, exercise stations, fencing, signs and a small playground. Other alternations must be approved by Pierce County.

The council also passed resolutions for agreements with Feet First and the Bicycle Alliance of Washington to provide educational services to the safe route to school projects.

Also, council passed a resolution authorizing Parametrix to design the East Town water main extension project.

The project will replace and extend a water line along state Route 410 as part of the Washington State Department of Transportation widening project for 410. The design will cost $20,000 and construction will begin next year.

Deputy Mayor Dan Swatman noted City Hall will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 16 for “Customer Service Saturday.” He said it will be open for passports, paying utilities bills, court fines and boat launch passes.

The council voted to select Councilmembers Laurie Carter, Dan Decker and Swatman as voting delegates to the annual Association of Washington Cities conference June 23-26 in Spokane.
