The Sumner High School girls swim team hit the water Sept. 13, and several girls are already looking forward to competing in districts.

The Spartans’ first meet of the year was a 133-38 win against South Kitsap.

Coach Dana Powers-Clark wrote in an email that the first meet of the year showed that the girls are off to an excellent start.

“I saw a lot of good technique, strong time improvement from last year (already!),” Powers-Clark said.

The very first event of the meet, the 200 medley relay, resulted in MichaelAnn Wilson, Marin Wilson, Emma Huynh and Olivia Castro qualifying for districts with a time of 2 minutes, 6.12 seconds.

MichaelAnn Wilson and Castro also qualified in the 200 IM with times of 2:28.14 and 2:32.54 respectively, and Wilson continued on to also qualify for the 100 back with a time of 1:06.15.

Huynh also qualified for the 50 and 100 free with times of 26.95 and 58.73.

Mikaela Miele qualified for two events, the 200 and 500 free with times of 2:05.73 and 5:38.57.

On the diving end of things, McKenna Webster nearly qualified for districts, ending her six dives with a total score of 241.50. To qualify, she needs 11 dives with a total score of 260.

With the girls now swimming in the 4A league, many also qualified for league meet, including all the girls who also qualified for districts.

Joining those girls in league meet is Miranda Wojciechowicz for the 200 free; Marin Wilson for the 200 IM; Miranda Morgan for the 100 fly; McKenna for the 1 meter 6 dives; Wojciechowicz and Castro for the 500 free; and Morgan for the 100 back.
