Sumner School District recently swore in two newly elected board members at its
Dec. 18 school board meeting. Deborah (Deb) Norris and Erin Markquart took an oath
of office to begin serving four years on the Sumner School Board of Directors. Norris and Markquart
join current Board Members Paul Busich, Casey Chamberlain and Rick Hendricks in setting policies,
overseeing administration and in ensuring the District meets and exceeds guidelines and laws as
outlined by the State Board of Education.

Deb Norris is married with three daughters who have gone through the Sumner School District. Norris
is a community-focused volunteer helping in classrooms, working diligently with parent organizations
and district committees, and serving as co-chair for four previous levy and bond campaigns.

“I am very much looking forward to working with the District in this capacity in a joint effort to serve
our students, family, and community,” Norris said.

Erin Markquart is married with four children currently attending schools in the Sumner School
District. Markquart has been a local elementary school teacher for thirteen years and currently
teaches Kindergarten in a neighboring school district. Erin has recently received her Master’s
degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

“I am honored and humbled to represent the community and to be given the
opportunity to do great work,” Markquart said.

“We welcome Deb and Erin and look forward to the energy and insight they will bring to the District as newly elected board members,” said Superintendent Sara Johnson.
