Pandemic: an epidemic of infectious disease that spreads through populations across a large region, for instance, a continent, or even worldwide.
So what do I say? Well, let’s put it this way – a few days ago I made a comment to my daughter as we were walking the beach and contemplating all the weird stuff taking place in our world today. I said, “Wow, maybe we are seeing the end of the world as we know it!”
However, you need to get the whole picture before you make a conclusion to my comment.
I had just spent a wonderful weekend with my friends at our annual small town reunion, where I grew up, and experienced a great celebration with my immediate family in Arizona, with the renewing of my vows to my lovely wife of 25 years. It was heavenly. As I write this note, I am in Mexico on the beach enjoying the sun, waves and a wonderful “but almost empty” resort. Oh, I know, I know, they are advising as a precaution that no one travel into Mexico unless absolutely necessary. But we arrived before the federal health officials advised U.S. citizens against traveling to Mexico.
The reason I say this is because although we may be in the end times, it is no reason to panic, no reason to worry, no reason to give up on life.
You see, if we are a people of faith and we put our hope and trust in God, why do we need to worry? After all, God is in charge. This is not to say that we shouldn’t be wise and take all necessary steps to avoid tragedy and make our world a better and safer place.
As Christians we should be the best stewards of the world God gave us to enjoy and care for. However, we shouldn’t stop living. In fact, we should be the ones who live life to the fullest!
There is no doubt in my mind; we are getting closer to the end of the age each and every day that passes. The signs of the times are indeed alarming, to say the least. It may even get worse, a lot worse. But if it does, I will rely on the same God who gave me the gift of life in the first place. This same God will get me through whatever comes my way. This God has promised us all who trust in him that we will get through any and all hardship victoriously.
And if at worst I should die, I will find myself in his arms and in a place unimaginable. I will finally be at home with no more sorrow, no more suffering and no more grief. But until then, I will take every opportunity to point others to Jesus during these trying times, who can also bring them assurance and I offer my assistance wherever I can be of help.
Oh, and I will live this life to the fullest. That reminds me – I need to get back to that which is most important, my family on the beach!
